Understanding the ORI (Originating Agency Identifier)

The Originating Agency Identifier (ORI) is a distinct code assigned to applicants by the employer or relevant agency. This code fulfills two key functions: it specifies the purpose of your background check and directs the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) regarding the destination of your results.

Upon submission of your fingerprints via the Florida Live Scan system, the background check process is generally completed within a span of three business days. To arrange an appointment for a Florida Live Scan, it is imperative to first acquire the ORI number from the agency requiring the background check.

Deciphering the TCN (Transaction Control Number)

The TCN, or Transaction Control Number, is a unique identifier that allows you or your agency to track the status of your fingerprint submission within the Florida system.

To check the status using your TCN, visit FDLE's TCN Lookup. Alternatively, you can contact FDLE directly at 850-410-8109. When reaching out to FDLE, be prepared to provide the date of your fingerprinting and your TCN number.
